Other Sleeping Aids
Ambien is undoubtedly one of the more popular and powerful prescription strength
sleeping aids currently available on the market. Full details aboout Ambien, buying
it online and other important information can be found on our Ambien
Mainpage, and below, we detail other popular sleeping aids that you may look
to buy online or otherwise if your doctor so recommends.
Lunesta (eszopiclone) is a new prescription sleep aid that is said
to "give you and your restless mind the sleep you need". CLICK
HERE to for information about Lunesta and other sleeping aids.
Sonata
Sonata (generic name Zaleplon) is prescribed for individuals who are having trouble
falling asleep at bedtime. Its duration of action is very short, thus Sonata would
not be very useful for those who have frequent awakenings throughout the night
or those who wake too early in the morning. It simply helps you to fall asleep,
then its effects wear off and the body will hopefully continue to sleep throughout
the night. As with Ambien, Sonata is intended only for short term use (typically
7 to 10 days).
Restoril
Restoril (generic name Temazepam) is a type of prescription medicine that is known
as a Benzodiazepine. They are also called Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants,
because they are medicines that work to slow down the body's nervous system. Other
brand name Benzodiazepines that are used for the relief of insomnia, frequent
night-time waking and waking too early include Razepam and Temaz.
Estorra
Estorra is a brand new (expected launch is Summer 2004) sleeping aid that received
conditional approval from US regulators in March 2004. It is said to help people
to stay asleep longer than compared with those that use Ambien.
Indiplon
Indiplon is a prescription medicine that should be available very soon. Based
on late-stage clinical trials, it's also said to keep patients asleep much longer
when compared to those that used Ambien.
Another sleeping aid which is still in the testing phase, but due to become available
within another two or three years is Gaboxadol (being developed with Merck
by H Lundbeck of Denmark). With all the 'hoop-la' about these great new and soon-to-be
launched sleeping aids, the signs exist that an extended release version of Ambien
may be available by the end of 2005. This would be Ambien's efforts to reduce
claims that it's effects don't last long enough.
