Paxil (Paroxetine)
Paxil (generic name Paroxetine) is used specifically to treat depression, but
is also used for the treatment of a number of other conditions including panic
disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and premenstrual
dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It may also be used for purposes other than those listed
above, but these are definitely the main ones.
Looking to buy Paxil online?
In the past couple years, the number of persons buying Paxil and other prescription
drugs online has grown in volumes. There are a number of reasons for this including
- (1) ease and accessibility to online Canadian pharmacies that can sometimes
sell the same drug that is available in the United States for 20% to 80% less
than the price there and (2) The convenience and privacy that comes from buying
your prescriptions online and having them discreetly delivered to you at your
doorstep or to your mailbox.
How does Paxil work?
Paxil is from a class of drugs called called SSRIs - selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitors. It works by affecting the chemicals in a person's brain that can
cause them to become unbalanced and cause depression, panic or anxiety, or obsessive
or compulsive symptoms.
Before you buy Paxil, what should you know or tell your doctor?
- Do not take Paxil if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
such as phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), or tranylcypromine (Parnate)
in the last two weeks. Serious, and sometimes fatal reactions have been known
to occur from this being done. Additionally, do not take Paxil if you are
taking thioridazine (Mellaril). Wait until at least five weeks after stopping
Paxil before taking Mellaril. Dangerous, even fatal irregular heartbeats may
occur if these prescription drugs are taken together
- Let your doctor know if you have liver disease, kidney disease, seizures
or epilepsy, or a manic disorder or suicidal thoughts.
If you are already taking or plan to take any other prescription or over-the-counter
drugs, be sure to inform your doctor since it's possible they may interact unfavorably
with Paxil
How should Paxil be taken?
Paxil is to be taken once a day, with or without food, and usually in the morning.
Shake the oral suspension well before measuring a dose and using it. If you
are taking Paxil CR (the controlled-release tablets), swallow these tablets
whole without crushing or chewing them. Paxil CR pills are specially formulated
to release the medication into the body slowly. Always try to take it at the
same general time every day.
Paxil CR
As detailed above, Paxil CR is the controlled-release version of the original
Paxil. Paxil CR gives the powerful relief of the original Paxil (paroxetine
HCl), plus a specially designed Geomatrix tablet that controls the absorption
of the drug in the body. According to the manufacturers, clinical studies have
shown that Paxil CR provides effective symptom relief with a low number of patients
stopping their treatment due to its side effects.
